Having grown up in the Presbyterian Church, I’m familiar with a piece of religious literature known as the Shorter Catechism. It’s a wonderful little pamphlet concerning how man ought to live according to Scripture, broken into question and answer format. I particularly like the first entry:
Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
I was thinking about this the other day as I was trail running on an unseasonable November day. The sun was shining, the air was warm and I was alone in nature. In that moment I found God in His creation and enjoyed Him.
I find there is something about trail running that is pure and elemental. When I’m surrounded by His creation and challenging myself to move swiftly with the flow of the trail, I find an almost hypnotic beauty. It’s in those moments I am most able to see, talk with and enjoy God.
Great post! I can’t agree more that running on trails definitely helps me to feel closer to God and strengthen my faith as a result!
Great post. In the last four months I have been blogging about how my closest times with God are when I am running. It is a time during the day when I am by myself and I can really concentrate on God.
I love the spiritual side of running. I think it just strips us down to our essential selves to where we can be honest and vulnerable.
